Classical Revolution Detroit (CRD) in WEEKLY summer series of events at New Center Park, Thursday noon-1pm

Classical Revolution Detroit Lunch Concerts Series, New Center Park

Rick Robinson writes:

June 4, 2013

Hello again!

Don't blink... Sometimes things change overnight! Suddenly Classical Revolution Detroit (CRD) is empowered with a WEEKLY summer series of events at New Center Park in Midtown Detroit! What a wonderful opportunity to introduce art music to a public that AVOIDS classical concerts! We'll be reading CutTime charts amplified in this pocket park smack across the street from the mighty Fisher Building on W. Grand Blvd. at 2nd Ave. EVERY Thursday noon-1pm!

Except for July 4, this Thursday lunch series for Midtown Detroit, Inc. will explore different aspects of written instrumental music-making with various entertaining, interactive and informative techniques. We begin June 6 with CutTime Simfonica powered by CRD soldiers John McLaughlin Williams, Dan Winnick, Leah Lucas Celebi, Leslie DeShazor and Brandon Cota... and a few audience volunteers helping us demonstrate why making classical MATTER is so much fun!

We'll read CutTime Players' music too, as well as feature soloists (TBA) and readings of Schubert's Octet and Dvorak's Bass Quintet. There are too many dates (13) to list here but you can read the Facebook event pages or see the New Center Park line up or everything at cuttime.com... including a runout to Redford this June 9 (Su) in Bell Creek Park 2p! Meanwhile there are other rehearsed concert dates to tell you about...

Those of you near Rochester, MI can catch CutTime String Quartet (basically a budget Simfonica) June 14 (Fr) 7p-9 at Cranberry Lake Farm on Predmore. The very next afternoon, the same group will play at Buck Park (formerly Harmonie Park) 1:45p as part of a Duke Ellington festival sponsored by Detroit Conservancy 300! With improvisers Derek Reeves and Dan Winnick onboard, people will be talking about these for a looong time... and they're all FREE!

A regular club CRD happens at Grand Rapids' Speak EZ Lounge June 12 (W) 7p and Detroit's Cadieux Café June 25 (T) 8p with more to come. Momentum in these cultural markets is really growing fast and CutTime is in the finals for a granting process to expand CRD into the future! Wish us luck and be ready to help us find matching funds for this effort.

Currently, I'm writing this from Rochester, NY at the annual convention of the International Society of Bassists where I'm selling music publications from my newly expanded catalog. Later this month, I'll attend the beginning of the League of American Orchestras conference in St. Louis where I'll speak (briefly) about the lessons learned inciting Classical Revolution.

I hope to see you at one of these this summer!

- Rick
