Indra Thomas will be facilitating the William Warfield Voice Masterclass, and Michelle Johnson has agreed to lead a similar masterclass for the youth. Lori Hicks, NANM Board Member, will be leading a workshop on African-American classical musicians from South Carolina. She will be assisted by Eunjung Choi, and Laura Keith. THIS is a convention of firsts or firsts in a while! For the FIRST time we will have a Convention Orchestra which will be under the direction of Kirk Smith. We want all of NANM’s instrumentalists to come and play a concert under this fine conductor. We will also have for the first time the Collegiate Young Artists Choir under the direction of Damon Dandridge. The collegiate students will also sing in the Convention Chorus under the direction of Jeffrey Ames (his first time with us) of the Belmont University faculty. This will also be the first time we operate our new electronic voting procedure. WAIT! THERE’S MORE! David Oliver, Morehouse College Organist, will hold an organ masterclass. 2013 Honoree and Take 6 member, Cedric Dent, will lead a wonderful workshop on Gospel arranging. We will also have a number of other workshops, including: the Sylvia Olden Lee Roundtable on the History of NANM, a presentation on the Fisk Jubilee Singers, Grant Writing for the arts, and forums for composers and conductors. We are proud to let you know that we are also going to have a workshop entitled, “NANM Behind the Scenes.” Come prepared to find out how the National Office works and get your questions answered.
